Moving house at Christmas

The Christmas season is upon us again, decorations are appearing in shops and malls, and we’re gearing up for the holiday season ahead. If you’re moving house at Christmas, you’ll have a lot on your plate before you’ve even given thought to Christmas dinner. How can you make the task more manageable? As an early present from us, here are a few tips for a smooth move during the holiday season.

  1. Be prepared

This tip applies to any move, but it’s especially important at Christmas time. It’s worth taking the time to plan your move, organise each stage into manageable and achievable tasks, and have a planner which accounts for every detail. There are now many apps you can download for your smart device specifically designed to help you organise moving house. Search ‘moving planner’ on the Google Play Store, or wherever you prefer to get your apps.

There is also a moving planner on our website with a list of key tasks and timings to help you get organised.

  1. Book your movers ASAP

Christmas is generally a busy time for moving companies, so you’ll need to book as soon as you can to confirm your moving date. Make sure your movers can provide all the additional services you need to make your move easier, such as storage, insurance and packing.

  1. Start packing now

If you’re packing up your home yourself, you’ll need as much time as possible to get the packing done. We generally recommend giving yourself as many as six weeks to get the packing done. If you have too much to do, then consider getting specialist moving packers to do it for you. It often doesn’t cost as much as people think, and we can do it all the day before you move. Consider it a gift to yourself and enjoy the extra time you’ll have to see friends and family.

  1. Confirm essential utilities

Make sure you confirm the changeover of your essential utilities so they’re available at your new home. These include power, internet, gas and any other services you need in your home.

  1. Christmas Day

Do you want to be in your new home on Christmas Day? If you do, make sure you communicate your plans to your moving manager to confirm your furniture and boxes will arrive on time.

From everyone at Conroy Removals, we wish you and your family a safe and happy Christmas and summer holiday. And if we can help to make your Christmas move go smoothly, feel free to give us a call.
