Conroy Makes a Move to New Plymouth

Acquisition of Hooker Pacific Moving & Storage of New Plymouth

With offices in major cities and regions throughout New Zealand, Conroy Removals has been moving Kiwis across the country and around the world for over 50 years. But servicing a small country with its winding roads and mountainous landscapes to remote locations with significant distance between them has its challenges.

Even though Conroy serviced Taranaki and would have vehicles in the region every two days, without a solid base there, vehicles would need to come from Wellington, Auckland or Napier to fulfil customer obligations, proving costly and timely.

Hooker Pacific is a removals and storage company based in New Plymouth, which established itself in the domestic moving business at the same time as Conroy’s humble beginning in Napier in 1973 – although they have quite the history, with origins dating back to the 1860s. Hooker Pacific has a colourful history, with their removal business launching in the 1970s.

When David Conroy learned of their previous owner wanting to retire from the business, he immediately saw the opportunity to purchase the missing piece of the Conroy puzzle.

Welcome to the Conroy Family

Culture is an integral part of any business, and even though the location was a draw card for David to expand, the similar cultures and level of professionalism that Hooker Pacific showed aligned perfectly with Conroy.

The blending of the businesses will ensure the same five-star Conroy customer experience is carried across to the West Coast, including integrating a well-designed IT system and state-of-the-art sales and operations support for all their bookings.

“Now we have a Taranaki branch, we can interlink our trucks and vehicles. It cuts down on a lot of waste. We won’t be able to eliminate it all, but we will certainly improve on efficiencies as far as loadings go.” – David Conroy – Co-Founder & Director

This new branch is a significant addition to the Conroy network, which will better serve both Conroy customers and the business itself. Eight Hooker staff are enjoying their new offices in New Plymouth and upgrades planned for their six-vehicle fleet in the future, with two new trucks already on order. As well as new offices, Hooker Pacific will benefit from a more comprehensive network with nationwide and international support from Conroy’s offices in Australia, with extensive knowledge, experience, and resources in domestic and commercial moves all around the world.
