Moving insurance protects your precious items
What is moving insurance?
Contents insurance vs moving insurance
It’s unwise to rely on your contents insurance to cover you for damages when moving house. Most policies cover you for damages while at home. Check your policy or contact your insurance provider to find out if you’re covered. Otherwise, you’ll need moving insurance if you want this kind of protection for your possessions.
What does moving insurance cover?
Moving insurance covers you for breakages, damage or loss of items while in transit or storage. Depending on the damage, the policy includes repair, replacement or a cash payout for the value of the item. The policy also covers any potential liability resulting from an accident, such as damage to third-party property.

Declaring the total value of your goods?
- Lump sum is where you use the convenience of declaring a single value for all of the goods in your move. To assist with the valuation of your goods, we will provide you with a benchmark value calculated at $3000 per cubic metre of household goods and personal effects. The benchmark value is the minimum lump sum value. If it does not adequately reflect the value of your goods, then you can increase it accordingly.
- A valued list of goods is where you list all of the items in your removal with an individual value for each item to determine the total value.
